About_Cape_Elizabeth.jpg

“Rachel Walls opened her gallery at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth last year with an exhibition from the estate of Dahlov Ipcar (1917–2017). Since then she has featured Robert Andrew Parker, painter, printmaker and award-winning children’s book illustrator. With the Lyford show, Walls confirms her commitment to presenting in-depth explorations of artists who explored multiple means of creative expression.”

What Public School Students Have to Say …

Students_Gallery.jpg
We all wanted to thank you for opening up your gallery to our ...Middle School...Program. The personal attention you gave to individual students as well as the group was exceptional. The hands-on participation was awesome. Viewing and experiencing the art works was great but the readings, the film/video and hands on activity were added pleasures. Your warm reception of us all has left a lasting impression. You even walked us to the bus and bid us farewell. With many warm thanks.

I wanted to sincerely thank you for the amazing opportunity to visit your gallery. It was amazing to see your collection and have you give us the history of each artist and some of their pieces.
I especially liked the WWII paintings upstairs by Robert Andrew Parker. It was interesting to see how they captured motion.

It was so much fun to see all the different mediums some of the artists used and what they created. It was inspiring to me. I’m not all that good at art but seeing there are many different mediums to use was cool.

“I loved looking at all the beautiful work. I especially liked the colors and the patterns in the art piece Riverside Brazil by Dahlov Ipcar. I also loved the animals in Kalahari Woodland by the same artist.”

Thank you for a wonderful presentation at the Portland Public Library’s Dahlov Ipcar Exhibit. Our K-5 students really enjoyed learning more about our Maine artist and storyteller. Many of the kids went home to find Dahlov’s books on their shelves. Our K-2 students decided they wanted to write a book too. I’ll send copies along to you once complete. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you so much for giving our class a tour of the gallery, it was really interesting and cool to see all the art and the context to it, like Cabot Lyford’s gloves and tools and the jazz music for the Robert Andrew Parker pieces.
I have some of the children’s books at my house by Dahlov Ipcar. It was cool to see more art by the person who illustrated them!
Thank-you Rachel for letting us come see all the artwork. I think it was a great opportunity and I learned a lot. My favorite piece was the Dahlov Ipcar piece of the dying soldier. I think it really shows the side of war that we tend not to see. Thanks again.
